Online dating can be a risk at the best of times but how about going on a date and being murdered for your organs?
51-year-old Blanca Arellano of Mexico met a Peruvian man online. After months of speaking, she made the 3,000 mile journey to meet him in person.
On the 31st of October, she landed in Lima to meet Juan Pablo Jesus Villafuerte. For the first week of the trip her family heard regularly from her, but the 7th of November was the last time her family heard from her. Her family in Mexico started to get worried as she was in a different country with essentially a stranger. Ms Arellano’s niece contacted Villafuerte who said Blanca had decided to return to Mexico.
However, on the 9th of November, a local fisherman found a faceless head at the port of Huacho. An arm and torso were also found, lacking all its organs. A single finger wearing a ring was also found. The family were able to identify the ring and were able to confirm that the remains were that of Blanca Arellano. Villafuerte was arrested as the lead suspect in this case for the murder and organ trafficking. It is thought that he did not act alone. Organs can sell for quite a pretty penny on the black market, and they are never sourced ethically.
