This month you might have noticed men sporting rather patchy and awful moustaches (some have been great though). This is all for a good cause. November is known as Movember.

Movember is a fundraiser with the aim of making a difference in mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Movember is all about encouraging men to talk and seek necessary help. Men on average die four and a half years earlier than women. A lot of these causes of death are largely preventable. Over 10.8 million men worldwide face life with a prostate cancer diagnosis and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young males.

One man dies by suicide every minute of every day with men accounting for nearly 70% of suicides each year. These figures are horrific and too many men face their battles alone or with inadequate help and support. Movember is all about changing this, groups of men come together and grow out their facial hair in solidarity with men around the world. Whilst sporting a tache they are also fundraising for much-needed projects that provide men with support for their cancer diagnosis, improve cancer screenings as well as mental health support for those who need it.

Movember is a very successful fundraising campaign but without donations from the public, they wouldn’t be able to continue with the work they do. So, as Movember is coming to an end, take a look at the faces and unique facial hair around you. If you can’t donate, try and be the support for someone who may need it. The current stats need to come down so we can create a brighter future for half of the world’s population.
